The Things You Find On Craigslist...Volume 1

By: Jeanelle Leclair, Social Media Specialist

The Citadel Theatre is bringing a new show to our cabaret-style venue The Club that's putting a hilarious and musical spin on popular classified site Craigslist . With the show premiering February 5th, 2014, I thought I would do some research and post about some funny, sweet, strange or just generally amusing classified ads up until the opening night. Those who frequent sites like Craigslist and Kijiji have probably seen their share of interesting posts, thus can affirm how entertaining this site can be. The first ad up on my list is a post I found in the "free" section of the For Sale category on Craigslist, and the title alone caught my eye:

FREE LIZARDS FOR X-MAS!!!!

FREE FREE FREE !!!!! Lizards must go I am unable to care for them I have 2 true fire skinks adults 1 ocelet skink adult and 1 pixie frog

Disclaimer: All ads are copied verbatim. Any grammatical or spelling errors have been kept to allow the poster's original text to be represented

So first off, the use of Lizards and Xmas in the same sentence just doesn't feel right. Something about a creature that lives in hot, tropical climates just doesn't mix well with snow, winter, pine trees and ice skating. Any average child, or even any average adult, whose Christmas gift consists of a tank of lizards most likely will not be as excited about what they have received as the title of this ad entails (my apologies to the lizard-lovers out there, you are exceptions). It's a bit of a tough sell... and I am skeptical as to what reason an owner of 4 amphibious creatures would decide one day to give them all away....For free.

Do You Want What I Have Got: A Craigslist Cantata runs at The Citadel from February 5th to 23rd, 2014. Tickets are still available online or in person at our box office, be sure to get them quick as they are cheaper the earlier that you purchase.

Thanks for tuning in to our first edition of The Things You Find On Craigslist... Until next time!
